I. Main toolbar

IV. Additional data collection techniques

A. Continue/Nest Features

To collect Point features while continuing the collection of a Line or Polygon

To collect the line to polygon -

      1. Choose layer to be edited via The Start/Stop Editing Tool 1f-spencil
      2. From the Point drop-down menu, tap on POLYLINE (not line) 1j-polyline or POLYGON 1k-polygon
      3. Position antennae over desired location
      4. Tap on GPS-Vertex 1n-gps_vertexor GPS-Stream 1l-gps_stream to start collecting positions
      5. Collect the feature, when you get to a desired point feature, tapGPS-Streamto pause collection by streaming of the line or polygon.

              Note: Pausing is not necessary if you are collecting by vertices.

              To collect the point feature

                1. Tap on POINT 1g-gps_pt to collect the point feature
                2. Enter attributes for the point feature
                3. Tap OK to save the point feature

                  To continue the polyline or polygon feature

                  1. Tap on GPS-Vertex 1n-gps_vertex or GPS-Stream 1l-gps_streamto continue collecting the line or polygon
                    1. Repeat steps as needed
                    2. At end of the feature, tap PROCEED
                    3. Enter attributes as needed for the line or polygon
                    4. Tap OK to save the line or polygon feature

                        B. Offset Line or Polygon

                        While a laser ranger finder makes offsets a breeze, the below works for the occasional offset.

                        To collect GPS features from distant from location of GPS receiver

                        1. Choose layer to be edited via The Start/Stop Editing Tool 1f-spencil
                        2. Tap on Offset Polyline/Polygon on the Edit toolbar 2g-offset
                        3. Enter the offset distance and direction
                        4. Hint: If the object is on your left, offset left
                        5. Tap OK 2g-offset
                        6. From the Point drop-down menu, tap on
                        7. POLYLINE (not line) 1j-polylineor POLYGON 1k-polygon
                        8. Tap on GPS-Vertex 1n-gps_vertex or GPS-Stream 1l-gps_stream to start collecting the line or polygon
                        9. At end of the feature, tap PROCEED 1m-green_arrow
                        10. Enter attributes as needed
                        11. Tap OK to save feature
                        12. Tap on Offset Polyline/Polygon on the Edit toolbar to disable offset

                          CAUTION : Failing to disable Offset Polyline/Polygon 2g-offset as described in Step 10 will result in all subsequent line and polygon features being offset by the same amount.


                          C. Offset Point

                          While a laser ranger finder makes offsets a breeze, the below works for the occasional offset.

                          To collect GPS features from Reference Point(s) distant from the GPS receiver

                          To collect a Reference Point by a single GPS position -

                          1. Choose layer to be edited via The Start/Stop Editing Tool 1f-spencil
                          2. On the Edit toolbar, tap on Offset Point 2i-segment_line
                          3. Tap on GPS-POINT 1g-gps_pt
                          4. Enter the offset distance and direction as desired
                          5. (Optional) To re-collect the Reference Point as averaged vertex -
                          6. Tap on the Tripod icon to open the vertex window
                          7. Position antennae over desired location for Reference Point A
                          8. Tap the SV button to collect reference point location by GPS 2h-offset_pt
                          9. Tap OK
                          10. (Optional) Tap the 2 Point Offset tab if desire two reference points
                          11. Repeat steps 3-10 for Reference Point B
                          12. Tap OK

                            All users -


                            Enter attribute values for Point feature
                            Tap OK to close feature
                            On the Edit toolbar, tap on Offset Point to disable offset

                              CAUTION : Failing to disable Offset Point as described in Step 13 will result in all subsequent point features being offset by the same amount.


                              D. Segmented Line


                              To collect a single, continuous line feature with different attribute values for each segment

                              1. Collect the first line segment as you would any line
                              2. Tap PROCEED 1m-green_arrow at end of the feature
                              3. Enter attributes as needed for the first segment
                              4. Tap OK to save feature
                              5. From the Edit toolbar, tap Segment Polyline 2i-segment_line
                              6. Tap on GPS-Vertex 1n-gps_vertex or GPS-Stream 1l-gps_stream to continue collecting the line or polygon
                              7. At end of the second segment, tap PROCEED
                              8. Enter attributes as needed for the second segment
                              9. Tap OK to save the second segment
                              10. Repeat steps 2-6 for each additional line segment
